Not sure if you'll thank me again for my interest but I find your interest in that game rather surprising. There you are in that beautiful country and you want to play D&D.

Just out of interest, did you get a comment that said "There you are in that beautiful country and you want to play D&D." when you started your London group?
LOL. Thanks. Yes, I'm a D&D junkie. But don't get me wrong...next weekend, I'm going to Colonia (sp?) in Uraguay for 3 days with my wife. This is just gonna be a once a week game, if we can get enough players/DMs. I'm the first to admire Bs As's beauty, but I'm also here for a year.

And finally, no, no one told me that when I started the London D&D group (now numbering around 106 members, with 20+ who meet weekly). For some, it's the only reason that being in London is bearable for them! LOL. But I like Bs As...except that I'm not fluent in Spanish, so I'm hoping for a nice weekly game to relax at, enjoy the game, and maybe make some new friends.
yknow, elpanada has a bit of a point. it's a lot of trouble to go about recreating a london scene in a new country. I really think that in a city this big someone is going to have to be playing rpgs. find those guys and you can learn all about the local D&D scene. There's a comic book store by tribunales subway station. You should go ask there. don't be scared of your lack of spanish. the only way you'll learn is by getting in way over your head.
if you can find and play with local gamers then you will make your experience here unforgettable as well as improve the heck out of your spanish while having fun.
I haven't played D&D in many, many years. It would be tough for me to do an on-going campaign but I would be up for a one-day (full day) campaign. Complete with junk food.
Matt here again. Sigh. I didn't expect to be explaining what D&D is, but I suppose that I should.
Nice Homer clip on YouTube, by the way. Anyway, D&D is umm...like Monopoly, or any other board game. However, there isn't a "board" since the game occurs in the imagination of the participants. It has nothing to do with the occult, satan, etc...I'm not very familiar with that anyway. It's more like...pretending to be characters in a medieval movie, like Lord of the Rings (from which D&D was based). Like Gandalf the wizard. Nothing involved with evil, just fun stuff pretending to cast a spell of some sort to defeat a monster of some kind, with a cool catchphrase if possible, like "You...Shall...Not...PASS!" That makes more sense if you've seen Lord of the Rings. It's fun, and if someone is interested in watching a game, that's fine. With regard to playing once, instead of in an ongoing campaign, that's fine, but I must warn you that it IS an addictive game, like watching soccer for some, and if you don't have enough time, I'd recommend that you not start, since my intention is to establish an ongoing campaign. However, if you think you might be able to fit in a weekly Saturday afternoon game or whenever we decide to play, or if you really have the self-control to only play once and not find out what happens if we end on a cliffhanger, then I welcome you.
your meetup group seems to be cancelled. What happened?
I'm a gamer geek who's been travelling around the world for a year...hence no D&D playing. I just flew here from Cape Town, South Africa, and came across your post while reading this forum.
I'll be in BA for at least a month, probably til Christmas (with side trips around South America), and possibly for good. So, if you get a game together, I'd love to play.
